Module 1: How do you write?

Usually, my writing projects are horribly unorganized because I don't take the time to create a game plan or structure for the work. I just want to get done with it. I only write creatively when I must, and usually not at all. Topics for my "pieces" are usually given and I just run with it. This plays to my strength, because I don't deal well with abstract creation. I am pretty linear and as long as I can get started in a specific direction, I'm like Juggernaut. Even the bullet points for this particular blogging assignment allow me enough structure to get through. In fact, in order to make sure I've hit all the requirements for the assignment, I have copied and pasted the bullets into the text box, made my comments, then deleted the bullets.
Great working conditions for me include noise cancelling earbuds, and usually some type of background noise, such as 'Cheers' or 'Frasier' streaming on Netflix or just music (hard rock, metal, classic rock) to drown everything else out. Isolation is great, but it is not always achievable. I am more productive when using a computer, only because I feel like when I use a pen and paper it's more final and I'm less apt to make changes or edits. I have a bit of CDO (that's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder correctly structured 😏), so when I physically write, I take my time and make sure it looks nice. My penmenship is derived from an artist mother and engineer of a father, and my punishments as a youth included writing different statements many times over, so I'll just say that I have had much practice. ;)
Hating writing as a writing technique does not work. Begrudgingly, I have come to accept this truth. Another method that does not work for me is "freewriting". I cannot just ramble. Case in point, I've been trying to answer these three post bullets for the past 90 minutes because I don't have the skill to just vomit words on the page and make sense of the thoughts after the fact. I just don't feel like there is that much to say. That said, "brainstorming" is more my wheelhouse, where I can visualize, organize and prioritize the chaos as I go.
